Some of you know that my "other life" outside of being the Executive Director for the Shelter Playgroup Alliance is that of a consultant. Recently, I was working with a leadership team on defining their team's values, determining how they were going to demonstrate those values as leaders, and coach their direct reports to also live those values in the course of their work.
In the course of that engagement, I reflected on some of the leadership and team dynamic frameworks that have had the biggest impact on my own leadership and that I have seen had a positive impact on teams that I have had the pleasure to work with.
The first is Situational Leadership by Hersey and Blanchard. I first learned about this model in graduate school and have had many opportunities to put it to work. I had the great pleasure of also meeting Ken Blanchard in person and thank him for his leadership in the organizational development industry. He's truly a kind, grounding, and genuine leader.
The second is Crucial Conversations. I had the great pleasure of taking a three-day course with one of the authors of the book -- Kerry Patterson -- and learn directly from his leadership. The framework in the book and the courses are impactful to say the least.
I do my best to lean in to authenticity, accountability, and developing others in my own leadership journey. Some days are better than others as I learn, grow, and develop.
